This is an observational study, meaning we do not provide medical marijuana or any other treatment to study participants. If you are interested in trying medical marijuana, we can provide step-by-step information about the process of getting a medical marijuana card, basic knowledge about medical marijuana products, and connect you with our collaborating clinics. We can also help you make an appointment with the clinics. Our compensation will cover the cost to get started with the treatment.

Process of getting a medical marijuana card

Step 1

Schedule an appointment with a qualifying physician at a medical marijuana clinic.

Step 2

Discuss symptoms with physician to determine eligibility. In most cases, people with chronic pain are eligible.

Step 3

The clinic will submit an online application for you and you will be asked to pay the $75 annual fee for the card.

Step 4

Wait until 3 days after your study visit to start medical marijuana treatment. We are able to compensate $200 if you wait.

Cost

The initial visit with a medical marijuana physician costs $150 to $200 and people spend $100 to $200 per month on average for products. This will vary greatly depending on the type of products and frequency of use.

Product Types

You do not have to smoke or vape and not all medical marijuana will make you feel “high”. There are other routes you can use medical marijuana such as oral tinctures, edibles, and topical products.

Privacy

Your information as a medical marijuana user will be stored in a secure online database at the Department of Health, Office of Medical Marijuana Use with restricted access.
